A routine metro ride turned dramatic when passengers inside a Delhi Metro coach were seen screaming and jumping onto seats in a video that soon went viral on social media.

The clip, originally shared by Keerty Chauhan on Instagram, prompted many to believe that a snake, reportedly a cobra, had made its way inside the women’s coach.

In the footage, several women are heard shouting, with some lifting their legs above the floor and others standing on seats. When someone asks what’s going on, a voice responds, “There’s a cobra!” Another urges someone to knock on the driver’s door to stop the train.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) addressed the incident on Friday and said there was no snake visible in the video. However, once the alert was raised, the train was halted at Akshardham Metro station, all passengers were evacuated, and the coach was sent to the depot for a detailed check.

Anuj Dayal from DMRC’s Corporate Communications team confirmed the chain of events. “The Delhi Metro took immediate action upon receiving the alert from the passengers in the coach on Thursday evening. The train was vacated at Akshardham and sent to the depot for thorough inspection,” he said.

Despite the panic and the claims, no snake was found. But the inspection did reveal that a lizard was there.

“DMRC prioritises passenger safety and security, and swift action was taken to address the concern. We urge passengers to remain vigilant and report any such concerns to our staff for prompt action,” Dayal said.

While social media may have fuelled the drama, DMRC’s response ensured the situation was handled quickly. No cobra, just a tiny lizard, but enough to get half the coach off their feet.
