An encounter has broken out between the security forces and terrorists in the Chatroo area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district.

According to information, at least two to three terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-based terror outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammad, have been engaged by the security forces following a joint search operation.

The area has been cordoned off while a heavy exchange of gunfire between the terrorists and personnel of the 16 Corps of the Indian Army is underway.

"Op CHHATRU. Based on specific #intelligence a joint search operation was underway in Kanzal Mandu, #Kishtwar. Contact has been established with the #terrorists and #operations are in progress," the 16 Corps posted an update on X.
