England's Gus Atkinson ruled out of West Indies ODIs, set to be fit before India Tests
Fast bowler Gus Atkinson will miss the ODI series against West Indies due to a hamstring injury. He is expected to be fit for the five-Test series against India, starting June 20.

In Short
- Gus Atkinson ruled out of the ODI series at home due to hamstring injury
- The fast bowler is expected to be fit for the Test series against India
- Jofra Archer was ruled out of the ODI series due to thumb injury
Fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of England’s upcoming one-day international series against the West Indies, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday, 27 May. He becomes the second England pacer, after Jofra Archer, to miss the three-match series, which begins on 29 May in Birmingham.
Atkinson sustained a hamstring strain during England’s one-off Test victory over Zimbabwe earlier this month. As a result, he will sit out the ODIs and begin a rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the England medical team.
"He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team. No replacement will be added to the ODI squad." the ECB said in a statement.
While the England board did not confirm his return, reports in the English media suggest that the fast bowler will be fit in time for the five-Test series against India, starting June 20. Atkinson will not be part of a T20I series which will follow the ODI series.
England will host the West Indies between May 29 and June 10. Brydon Carse, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts and Luke Wood are part of the fast-bowling group in the ODI series.
Jofra Archer was also part of the ODI squad for the series, but he was ruled out due to a thumb injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League stint with Rajasthan Royals. Archer will also be monitored and he is likely to be available for the Test series against India.
India and England will play five Tests between June 20 and August 4 as both teams will begin their new cycles of World Test Championship.
