CAA protest in UP: 1 killed in Rampur in violence

As violent protests over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act continued in Uttar Pradesh, 1 person was killed in Rampur on Saturday. The death toll has now mounted to a total of 11 in UP. As the situation escalated in India’s most populous state, internet services were suspended in various districts, including Bulandshahr.

The country remains on edge as protests continued in innumerable states over the newly amended citizenship act, that aims to expedite non-Muslim immigrants who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

On Friday, the capital once again turned into a battlefield after several minors were detained by the Delhi Police for holding peaceful demonstrations. Visuals of stones, leftover footwear and bloodstains created a storm on social media in several parts of the national capital after the Delhi Police resorted to lathicharge to dispel the protesters.
